Most people will need to pay something towards the cost of the adult social care support they receive.

You can use our estimators to get an indication of how much you may need to pay for:

  • care at home (non-residential care)
  • permanent residential care
  • respite care.

The result is only an estimate. Your actual contribution will be confirmed after a full financial assessment.

How we work out what you'll pay

If you receive adult social care support from us, we'll first carry out a care needs assessment to understand what support you need.

We'll then do a financial assessment to work out whether:

  • you'll need to pay the full cost of your care
  • you'll pay part of the cost
  • your care will be paid for you.

What you'll pay will depend on the money you have and any property you own.

Before you start

The estimator will take around 10 minutes to complete.

To calculate how much you may need to pay, you'll need to tell us:

  • whether you own a property or not
  • your date of birth
  • whether you're part of a couple
  • how many children are in your household that you're responsible for
  • your shares, savings and investments
  • your housing costs
  • your income from any pensions or benefits
  • any other income you get.

Any information you enter into the estimator will not be saved or sent to us.

Get an estimation

You can use our estimator if you:

  • receive care and support while living in your own home, such as home care, day services or other community-based support
  • are moving into a residential or nursing care home permanently
  • are staying in a residential or nursing care home for a short time, including planned respite care or a temporary stay.

What happens when you complete the estimator

Once you've finished entering your information, you'll get an estimate of what you'll pay towards your care on a weekly basis.

We will not send you an email with your estimate, so you'll need to save or print this if you want to keep it.
