Rainham Reimagined is a regeneration strategy commissioned by us for Rainham
The plan defines the local community's aspirations for future improvements.
The delivery plan provides:
- a basis for prioritising investment and funding bids
- a guide for developers and applicants on design outcomes, quality and uses
- residents, businesses and community groups with an understanding of future change and ways that they can be involved.
The Rainham Reimagined delivery plan was launched on Friday 14 August 2026 at the Rainham Seaside Spectacular event.

The delivery plan was produced by our appointed consultant, BPTW, working with:

- Ian Sayers and Co
- Hyas Associates.
Themes of Rainham Reimagined
The main themes that we aim to deliver for Rainham town centre include:
- building and spaces: improve streets, spaces, and buildings to create a greener, more attractive town centre that celebrates Rainham's heritage
- movement and destinations: improve how people move around and through the town centre. Better routes and signage will help connect key destinations such as Cozenton Park and Riverside Country Park
- community and belonging: create a welcoming, inclusive town centre with the right mix of uses and services for everyone.
What we're working on
Following community feedback, we are proposing three projects to transform the town centre:
- Orchard Square: a reimagined central square for markets, events, planting and public art
- High Street connections: targeted crossings, pavements, greening and shopfront improvements along the High Street
- Three Trails: named walking routes (the Heritage, Station, and Cozenton trails) connecting the town centre to the conservation area, railway station and the green network, each walkable in under 15 minutes.
Several improvements will be delivered between August 2026 and 31 March 2027 to make Rainham town centre an even better place to live, work, learn and visit.
These projects will be part-funded through S106 developer contributions.

Feasibility study
In 2025, we appointed Tuckey Design Consultants to help us develop a new feasibility study for the town centre to look at what should be prioritised for future regeneration work.
By having a feasibility study in place, it will help us improve the town centre as a destination for local residents and reinforcing the identity of the town centre as a hub for the community, looking at many improvements that we could make which could include markets, pop-up events, planting, leisure, play and much more.
To help us develop the draft feasibility study, we asked to hear:
- what you think of the current town centre’s facilities
- how it looks
- what it’s lacking
- how you think the changes could improve the town centre for years to come.
We received more than 1,000 responses that contributed to the development of the feasibility study.
We also held 2 workshop sessions during Rainham Town Centre Partnership meetings which also helped shape the creation of the study.
