We are taking steps to ease congestion on the Medway City Estate.

The work will improve journey times on and around the estate and future-proof the road network for years to come.

Medway City Estate survey

In August 2018, we issued a survey to commuters and visitors to Medway City Estate. This was to get their views on travelling to, from and around the Medway City Estate for work, retail or leisure.

We got 403 responses. View the main observations from the responses

Improvements to the Medway City Estate

So far improvements include:

  • three exit lane extensions at Anthony’s Way onto the A289 to create highway capacity for traffic exiting the estate
  • new traffic signals on the westbound entrance to Medway Tunnel – these signals will be used in the evening peak period to create gaps in the flow of traffic to allow easier exit from the estate
  • adjusting traffic signals on Maritime Way so they operate with the new signals
  • installing new CCTV cameras on Anthony’s Way linked to an internet viewing portal for the public to view traffic on the estate and plan their journeys

Additional funding has been secured to support the provision of two dedicated bus routes (the 170 and 175) that serve Medway City Estate.
