The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays.
There are challenges for children, teens and adults.

Children's summer reading challenge
This reading challenge is for children aged 4 to 11.
The 2023 Summer Reading Challenge at Medway's Libraries is based on sports.
Get ready for a whole load of team spirit, your favourite sport heroes and plenty of adventure.
The aim of the challenge is to read 6 books over the summer holidays between July and September.
For each book you read you will receive a special prize including:
- a booklet
- stickers
- a bookmark
- a door hanger
- a mini frisbee.
If you read all 6 books you will receive a medal and a certificate.
Medway Libraries has a growing collection of children’s eBooks to help children with the challenge.
Teen reading challenge
The teen reading challenge is for 12 to 19 year olds.
Sign up for the challenge at any Medway Library and receive your tracker card.
You then need to read 6 books between July and September and enter the prize draw to win a new book or surprise gift.
We’ve got thousands of great books to choose from, including the latest releases.
Adult reading challenge
Take some time out this summer and get into some great books with our adult reading challenge.
Read 6 books between July and September and keep track of what you've read using your challenge card.
If you read 6 books and hand in your challenge card at any Medway Library, you can enter the prize draw with the chance to win:
- family tickets to Rochester and Upnor Castles and Eastgate House
- new books
- surprise gifts.
