Swimming at Hoo
Our swimming pools will available for a range of pre-booked activities.
Lane swimming
During member and casual swim sessions, our main pool is lane swimming only. Numbers will be limited to enable social distancing.
For swimmers aged 16 and over, you can pre-book a lane for a one hour slot.
Find out more about booking your swimming session online.
Family and pre-school swimming sessions
Family swimming sessions are available at our pools. These sessions are for household bubbles of up to 6 people.
The sessions will be available in:
- our teaching pools
- laned spaces within the main pools.
The weekly family swim sessions are on Sundays between 12pm and 1pm every week.
During the second week of the Easter school holidays, we will offer extra family swimming sessions.
These sessions will be at the usual school swimming session times.
This is subject to availability.
We also offer pre-school swimming sessions in our teaching pool. These sessions are for up to 4 members of the same household (children must be under 5 years old).
Booking family or pre-school swimming sessions
All family and pre-school swimming sessions must be pre-booked over the phone up to 7 days in advance.
Families can only book 1 session per week.
Sessions are subject to availability.
Normal swimming admission prices apply. Membership and Medway Free Swimming cards can be used.
Parent to child ratios for family and pre-school swimming
Due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions our policy has been amended. This is to support social distancing in these sessions.
The new ratios are:
- children aged 8 to 16 will need to have 1 adult for every 5 children
- children aged 5 to 7 will need to have 1 adult per every 3 children
- children under 5 will need to have 1 adult for every 2 children.
Safety and hygiene measures
To help keep yourself and others safe, please come swim ready and pre-shower at home.
Changing rooms will be available. Please minimise the amount of time spent in them.
We recommend you use the same cubicle pre and post-swim. All cubicles will be cleaned for the next session.
Lockers can be used in the same way. Make sure you bring the correct change. Lockers at Hoo Sports Centre are £1.
No personal belongings or swim-aid equipment can be taken poolside. This includes:
- towels
- floats
- drinks.
Pool shoes are encouraged.
Spectators are not allowed poolside or in the gallery. Only customers booked for specific activities will be allowed in the centre.
