Transport for young people aged 16 to 25 with SEND
We consider applications for education travel assistance for young people aged 16 to 25 living in Medway if they:
- have learning difficulties or disabilities
- have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan.
Having an EHC Plan does not mean a young person is automatically eligible for travel assistance.
We consider:
- individual needs, taking into account their age and mobility
- where transport is not required in relation to SEND needs, the distance from home to school being attended will also be taken into consideration.
If the young person is eligible, we'll consider how travel assistance could be provided in the most appropriate way.
To promote more independent, sustainable travel to school, we encourage walking and public transport use wherever possible.
SEND transport charges for young people
You must pay a financial contribution to travel assistance for young people aged 16 to 19 in years 12, 13 and 14.
We can support you to apply for relevant grants or bursaries to help with this cost.
We encourage you to think about your child's individual needs and journey. You should consider the required contribution and if SEND travel assistance is the best option for them.
