Switch Together (previously known as Solar Together) is a group buying scheme that helps to make the switch to clean energy more affordable and less daunting.

Since 2020, we’ve been working with Kent County Council and other Kent districts to offer solar panels at competitive prices for homeowners and small businesses.

Solar panels and battery storage

Solar panels can help you save money on energy bills and reduce your carbon footprint.

With Switch Together, you can also choose to install:

  • battery storage to help use generated electricity
  • an electric vehicle charging point.

If you already have solar panels installed, you can apply for battery storage to maximise the benefits of your existing solar panel installation.

Switch Together will:

  • help you through the process
  • keep you informed at every stage
  • offer you savings on the installation of solar panels for your home or small business.

Any homeowner, landlord or small business can register. Applications are limited to 50 solar panels per property.

How Switch Together works

There are 5 steps in Switch Together's scheme:

Step 1: Registration

Registration is quick, free and there's no obligation.

To complete registration, you will need to give some information about your roof, such as:

  • size
  • condition
  • orientation.

Register for Switch Together.

Step 2: Auction

An auction of pre-vetted installers bid to offer the best deal.

The most competitive offer from these installers will win the auction to complete the work.

Step 3: Personal recommendation

You will be contacted with a personal recommendation.

This will be based on the specifications of your roof. Your recommendation will include the costs and specification of your solar panel installation.

Step 4: Decision

Once you have your recommendation, it is up to you to decide if you would like to go ahead with the installation.

If you choose to accept your recommendation, the supplier will contact you to carry out a survey of your roof.

They will set an installation date with you.

Step 5: Savings on electricity

After installation you will begin to save money by generating your own renewable electricity.

Planning permission

Solar panels are considered a permitted development and do not generally need planning permission.

You may need planning permission if:

  • you are in a conservation area
  • you have a listed building.
