Behaviour hypothesis statements
We can summarise what we know about the behaviour that challenges. This will include what triggers and maintains the behaviour.
This offers an informed view about the purpose of the undesirable behaviour.
Prevention strategies
Strategies are put in place to reduce the chance of undesirable behaviour.
This includes:
- changes in activities
- new ways to prompt an individual
- changes in expectations.
Replacement skills
Teaching new skills to replace the undesirable behaviour.
Consequence strategies
Guidelines for responding to undesirable behaviours to help manage it.
This might include:
- positive reinforcement strategies to encourage using new skills
- encouraging a more appropriate or desirable behaviour.
Long-term strategies
This will help achieve long-term goals, such as developing friendships.
