Critical friends

A critical friend for Rainham and Strood has been appointed to act as a central point of contact for the group of commissioned artists and the Culture and Town Centre Management teams.

These critical friends will support the commissioned artists and help curate the collection of public artworks in the town centre for the Welcome art project.

Nadia Perrotta

Nadia Perrotta is a socially engaged visual artist who works in:

  • performance
  • illustration
  • moving image
  • creative writing.

She has lots of experience engaging with people in a participatory and in-depth manner, including with public-sector commissions.

Using her expertise and experience in public art and commission, she will support the commissioned artists to deliver their work in Rainham, liaising and mediating between artists, partners and local authorities.

Wendy Daws

Wendy Daws is an artist and creative practitioner and is one half of the MESS ROOM arts studio.

She creates tactile sculptures, 'shadow plays' and site responsive installations. Her work is collaborative and driven by an inclusivity agenda.

As a collaborator and critical friend, Wendy will be supporting the Strood artists taking part in the Welcome project.

Graphic designer

Mark Barnes

Mark Barnes is a freelance illustrator and graphic designer who not only designed the Welcome logo, but will be producing all the flyers, maps and other marketing materials for the Welcome project.
