Where we want to be by 2033
Medway is a child-friendly place where children are given a strong foundation for life through physical education and sport.
Children and young people from all backgrounds have access to places to play and high quality sporting opportunities. Children and young people have a voice in shaping sporting programmes and projects.
How we'll make this happen
We will:
- work with schools, school sports partnerships and school games organisers to provide children with high quality physical education, through curriculum lessons, after school clubs, intra and inter-school competitions and swimming lessons
- work in our sports centres and with community partners, clubs and settings to provide safe and effective holiday programmes and sports activities for Medway’s children, supporting those who are most vulnerable and economically disadvantaged
- work with community clubs to provide safe sporting experiences for Medway's young people, championing safeguarding
- support young people towards careers in sport through volunteering programmes, training, apprenticeships and further/higher education
- engage with young people to give them a voice in shaping sports projects and priorities.
An annual action plan will provide a detailed roadmap, with measurable annual outcomes and outputs for specific projects and programmes, all contributing to the long-term vision.
Case study: Young Referee Academy
The Young Referee Academy was created in partnership with the Kent FA to develop the next generation of officials to support league football in Medway.
Medway Sport identified and subsidised 22 young people to become qualified referees. They refereed our Mini Youth Games football and are now qualified to act as paid match officials within local leagues.
