Where we want to be by 2033
Medway’s residents have a wide range of quality, accessible opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity within sports centres, sports clubs and wider community settings.
Programmes are designed to take place in the right place, at the right time, with the right partners, and evaluated to measure their impact.
How we'll make this happen
We will:
- deliver sport and activity programmes in community, club and sports centre settings, working in partnership to grow participation and capacity and promote community cohesion
- develop comprehensive activity and event programmes within our community sports centres
- deliver programmes and activities which aim to grow participation rates among key target groups including women and girls, people with disabilities, and diverse communities
- harness the benefits of sport to help tackle health and social inequalities through projects delivered in partnership with other agencies
- support the growth of Medway’s community sports clubs and leagues
- design programmes that use sport as a tool for promoting mental health and wellbeing, tackling social isolation and supporting vulnerable adults and children.
An annual action plan will provide a detailed roadmap, with measurable annual outcomes and outputs for specific projects and programmes, all contributing to the long-term vision.
Case study: Genesis Football
Genesis Football uses the power of football to reach out to vulnerable adults through a free, weekly training session, friendly kick-about, hot lunch and fellowship.
The project has been making a difference to participants’ lives since being launched in Medway as a partnership between St John’s Chatham, Ambassadors Football, Medway Sport, the Medway Night Shelter and Anchorians FC.
