Where we want to be by 2033
Medway’s sports centres are thriving activity hubs, where members and visitors can enjoy high quality, accessible facilities, classes, family activity programmes and large-scale events.
Children and young people can access safe and accessible outdoor facilities and open spaces in which to enjoy play, leisure and active family time.
Usage of Medway’s formal pitches and courts – including club facilities and community assets – is maximised for the benefit for all.

How we'll make this happen
We will:
- seek to increase income and footfall at each Medway Council sports centre
- design and invest in new community sports facilities for the people of Medway, including the development of the new Cozenton Park Sports Centre, Watling Park Football Centre and new provision on the Hoo Peninsula
- ensure our sports centres are accessible and welcoming to all, with programmes, facilities and initiatives tailored to support young people, older people and under-represented groups including children and adults with disabilities
- help connect people with available services and facilities, working in partnership with clubs, leagues and partners to promote greater use of existing facilities including tennis courts, playing pitches, multi-use games areas, cycle network, open spaces and the river.
An annual action plan will provide a detailed roadmap, with measurable annual outcomes and outputs for specific projects and programmes, all contributing to the long-term vision.
Case study: Cozenton Park Sports Centre
The first new council-built sports centre in Medway for over 30 years, Cozenton Park is a modern, fit-for-purpose facility offering a leisure pool and lane swimming along with a state-of the-art gym, and dance and fitness studio.
This modern new facility demonstrates our commitment to providing accessible facilities that serve all members of the community, including the elderly, less mobile as well as children and young people.
