In March 2026 the Institute for Health Equality (IHE) published a report setting out recommendations for how Medway can achieve its goal of becoming a Marmot Place. The recommendations are organised around the 8 Marmot principles and focus on:

  • the importance of putting the principles into practice through organisational change
  • strengthening systems to tackle health inequalities.

At this stage the recommendations are intentionally broad because they're meant to start a conversation across Medway. This conversation includes:

  • local organisations
  • businesses
  • communities
  • residents.

Through this engagement, the recommendations will be turned into a detailed action plan to reduce health inequalities and improve the lives of all residents.

Consultation feedback and final recommendations report

After the IHE report was published, we worked with over 90 organisations and partners across Medway to get their views on the recommendations.

The feedback helped us to ensure the recommendations reflected:

  • local experiences
  • priorities
  • challenges.

As a result, some of the original recommendations were updated and strengthened.
