Kent reimagined: Bold new local government for the next generation to improve lives
Local Government Reorganisation changes how local councils are organised and what they're responsible for.
Councils from across Kent and Medway submitted proposals to central government on the 28 November 2025. These proposals suggest how our councils should be combined to create new unitary authorities.
Our proposal is to create 4 unitary authorities - North Kent, East Kent, Mid Kent and West Kent. This is designed around real communities and delivery of critical services such as social care, housing, health and education. It will simplify local government, making it easier for residents to know who does what.
