Medway Libraries is celebrating Sarah Forbes Bonetta this Black History Month. 

Sarah Forbes Bonetta was the protégée of Queen Victoria, who lived in Canterbury Street, Gillingham. Medway Libraries are hosting a free talk about her fascinating life at Gillingham Community hub on Thursday, 28 October between 7.30pm and 9pm. Young people aged 11 to 16 can also celebrate the life of Sarah Forbes Bonetta, and her talent for music, by creating an eye-catching sculpture of a musical note, using recycled books at:

  • Gillingham Community Hub on Tuesday, 26 October, between 2.30pm and 3.30pm
  • Walderslade Hook Meadow Library on Wednesday, 27 October between 2.30pm and 3.30pm
  • Rainham Library on Thursday, 28 October, between 2.30pm and 3.30pm
  • Chatham Community Hub on Friday, 29 October between 2.30pm and 3.30pm

Sarah Forbes Bonetta is one of six fascinating Gillingham women who will be highlighted in special talks by Medway’s libraries. More information about future talks will be announced in due course.
