We have appointed an architect to work on exciting plans to create a new family-friendly sports centre in Rainham.

We have appointed SPACE & PLACE (S&P) who will now work on detailed designs for the new centre which will offer fun family-friendly activities which will complement sessions held at Medway’s other sports centres.

The new Rainham centre will include a leisure pool with a range of features suitable for children and families of all ages. The pool will also be large enough to allow formal swimming and to hold swimming lessons. Plans also include a gym and exercise studio/party room, improved changing facilities and a café, for sports centre customers and for visitors to the adjoining park.

Exciting step

Cllr Howard Doe, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: “I am pleased that we have appointed the architects SPACE & PLACE. This is the first exciting step in developing a new sports centre in Rainham. The new centre will have high-quality facilities for Medway’s families to enjoy including a leisure pool with features for children of all ages to enjoy as well as a gym and a new café. The new centre supports our aspiration to become a Child-Friendly City, putting children and young people at the heart of everything we do. I am looking forward to seeing the plans progress.”

Family focused sport and leisure facility

Keith Ashton, CEO Sports and Leisure at SPACE & PLACE, said: “We are delighted to have won the tender to work with Medway Council. We are looking forward to being part of the team to replace the existing Splashes centre, and to design and deliver a fabulous new family focused sport and leisure facility, for the people of Rainham and the wider Medway community.”

Plans to replace Splashes Sports Centre are currently in the very early stages. The centre is due to be demolished early next year and residents will be kept up-to-date as the project progresses.
