Medway Light Nights, a spectacular festival of light, transformed Rochester’s historic buildings and spaces into works of art on Friday and Saturday, 11 and 12 February 2022.

We, in partnership with Emergency Exit Arts, commissioned local, national and internationally renowned artists and to work alongside Medway’s young people and communities to bring Medway Light Nights to life.

A host of local creative organisations including Icon Theatre, 51zero, Ideas Test, Cohesion Plus and Lucid Creates also participated to create the event to celebrate Medway’s heritage with the dynamism of its contemporary people.

The We Are Medway parade, live shows, film installations and public art featuring Medway’s young people and communities received fantastic feedback.

Delighted to see residents enjoying the fantastic event

Cllr Howard Doe, Medway Council's Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: "Medway Light Nights was brilliant and the feedback we have received about the festival of light is overwhelmingly positive. I would like to say thank you to the thousands of residents that visited and supported the event and for tagging us in your pictures and videos. I was delighted to see so many residents enjoying the fantastic event, aimed to celebrate Medway's heritage and creative spirit, and I'm glad that it showcased the best of Medway.

"Medway Light Nights was a huge success with more than 1,000 children and residents taking part and performing. The festival supports our ambition to become a Child-Friendly City, putting children and young people at the heart of everything we do.

“I'd like to say thank you to all of the artists involved, Emergency Exit Arts, and all of our other partner organisations which were involved and a special thanks to council staff who helped organise the festival. Medway has always been a hugely creative place and I'm glad the area’s creative spirit shone through at the event. I look forward to future events being held in Medway as part of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year."
