Upcoming events in Medway will create even more fun experiences and opportunities for Medway’s young people.

From seasonal and festive celebrations to sport and library events, our Child Friendly Medway team has plenty on offer for families.

The child-friendly autumn season kicked off with the Super Saturday event at the Pentagon Shopping centre in September. The superhero inspired event, which took place on Saturday, 24 September, saw families gathering in Chatham’s city centre for treasure hunts, workshops and photo opportunities with film favourite superheroes and cars including Batman, Spiderman, Ironman, Ghostbusters, 30-foot Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, the Dark Knight Tumbler, Jurassic Park Jeep and the Ecto-1.

The half term school holidays also saw fun festivities, including a spooky Halloween themed workshop for the little ones at the Pentagon Shopping Centre on Thursday, 27 October. Attendees got scarily creative and made a trick or treat goblet, ahead of the big Halloween night!

More fantastic events for children and young people will run in Luton, Chatham and Rochester in the coming months thanks to new funding from the Home Office’s Safer Streets Fund. More than £200,000 was secured by the Medway Task Force for us, through the PCC, making Medway an even safer place and bringing exciting child-friendly events.

To get into the festive spirit, children across Medway are invited to turn themselves into one of Santa’s little helpers next month with Elf Yourself. The event, being delivered by the Pentagon Shopping Centre in partnership with our Child Friendly Medway team, will see families exploring in and around the shopping centre on Saturday, 19 November, from 1.30pm until 4.30pm, to find elf necessities including bells and hats. Finish your trail with a Christmas elf graduation photo with the one and only Santa Claus before enjoying the range of shops and one of the many bespoke cafés in the centre.

Theatre workshops, Easter fun and community events are just some exciting opportunities that will be on offer for Medway’s children, young people and families next year with Child Friendly Medway.

Create more opportunities for Medway's young people

Cllr Adrian Gulvin, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Resources and Chairman of the Medway Community Safety Partnership, said: “I’m so pleased that we received this funding to create even more opportunities for Medway’s young people. Super Saturday was a great success so I would encourage residents to find out more about the exciting upcoming events, to get involved with the community and have lots of fun. Our work with Safer Streets is part of our aspiration to become a child-friendly city, putting children and young people at the heart of everything we do.”
