Statement following the reopening of the Medway Tunnel on Saturday, 17 December.
We pleased we were able to safely reopen the tunnel on Saturday afternoon after the cause of the technical systems failure was identified as a faulty cable and fixed by a team of specialist and highways engineers.
We anticipate some further work will be required. If necessary, this will be carried out at a time when it will cause the least disruption to residents.
Thank you again to motorists for your patience while our teams worked overnight to get the tunnel reopened.
