History will be brought to life at Medway’s fantastic heritage sites over the Easter holidays.

Characters at Rochester Castle, which has the finest and tallest Norman castle keep in the country, will delight visitors with tales of the role they played at the spectacular castle.

On Sunday, 9 April discover what Easter would have been like in Rochester Castle during the medieval period.

A 14th Century pilgrim en route to Canterbury will also be making a special stop at the castle on Sunday, 16 April. Watkin Thatcher will tell the story of the Peasant’s Revolt in 1381, the Statute of Labourers and the poll tax.

Visitors will be able to meet some special guests at the picturesque Upnor Castle over the Easter break. The 79th Cameron Highlanders Regiment of Foote re-enactment weekend will be showing off their skills with live demonstrations and musket drills on Saturday and Sunday, 15 and 16 April. Normal admission fees apply.

Children can also take part in five different family-friendly trails at Medway’s fantastic heritage sites.

Visit Rochester Castle to take part in the Golden Eggs Trail, find chicks and lambs at Upnor Castle, hop over to The Guildhall Museum for the Bunny Trail, follow farm animal footprints at Temple Manor and look for fairy doors at Eastgate House.

Complete each trail to receive a badge and special stamp, themed around the attractions.

The trails are free to take part in, but admission prices apply at Rochester Castle, Upnor Castle and Eastgate House.

So much fun to be had at Medway's brilliant heritage attractions

Cllr Howard Doe, Deputy Leader of Medway Council and Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: “There is much fun to be had at Medway’s brilliant heritage attractions over the Easter school holidays including the return of the extremely popular trails. All of our exciting activities support our aspiration to make Medway even more child-friendly. I would encourage families to visit our heritage attractions and find out more about Medway’s rich history.”

More living history characters will be visiting Rochester Castle and Upnor Castle later this year as part of Medway’s coronation celebrations. More information will be announced in due course, to stay up-to-date, visit: VisitMedway.org
