Thousands of runners, joggers and walkers will take part in one of Medway’s biggest community sporting events later this summer.

This year’s Medway Mile will take place on Friday, 21 July, in and around Medway Park in Gillingham.

The mass mile route will take participants through the award-winning Great Lines Heritage Park and past the Royal Naval Memorial which has panoramic views across Chatham.

Children’s races will take place on the athletics track at Medway Park alongside the popular mascot race and competitive track races, organised by Medway and Maidstone Athletics Club.

The medals for the children’s races are sponsored by the our Child-Friendly Medway team.

Sports activities, taster sessions, family entertainment and refreshments will be on offer from 5pm on Friday, 21 July.

Participants need to pre-register to take part in the Mass Medway Mile to guarantee their free souvenir T-shirt.

One of our most-loved sporting events

Cllr Harinder Mahil, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and Leisure, said: The Medway Mile is one of our most-loved sporting events and we are looking forward to cheering on thousands of residents as they run, jog or walk the course. I would encourage those wishing to take part to sign up early to avoid disappointment. As well as the mass race there will also be a number of fun taster sessions and demonstrations for the whole family to enjoy including athletics, balance bikes and football.”

The Medway Mile also supports Medway’s aspiration to become even more child-friendly by creating more opportunities for the area’s children and young people.
