Medway’s green fingered residents are invited to enter the Medway Blossoms 2018 competition to be in with the chance of winning garden centre vouchers.

The size of the front garden doesn't matter - neat and tidy lawns, vibrant flower beds and colourful window boxes are all in with an equal chance of winning.

Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder overseeing community wardens, Cllr Rupert Turpin, said: “Many of our residents take pride in their front gardens and it’s lovely to see. We are committed to keeping Medway clean and tidy and we want to recognise and reward residents who work hard to keep their gardens looking top notch. I would like to encourage residents to enter the competition and wish them good luck.”

Medway’s Best Front Garden competition 2018 is sponsored by Gian Chahal, McDonald’s franchisee for the Medway Gate and Chatham stores. He is looking forward to the competition and viewing this year’s entries.

How to enter

Medway Blossoms 2018 will run across the council’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. From Thursday, 14 June, residents can submit one front garden photo per household to one of the social media platforms using the hashtag #MedwayBlossoms2018 and hashtag the town they live in, for example #Rochester. The deadline for entries is 5pm on Friday, 13 July 2018.

Residents can also submit their photo by post and send their entry, with their name, address and phone number to:

Those who do not use social media can also enter by emailing one photo of their front garden to pressoffice@medway.gov.uk and should include their name, town and a contact number.

Medway Council’s community wardens will also be on the lookout for potential entries.

How it’s judged

From Monday, 16 July, our panel will look through all valid entries and compile a list of the six best entries. During the week commencing 23 July each garden will be visited by the judges and given a score. All of the judges scores will then be added together and the gardens with the top three scores will be awarded first, second and third place. The top six photos will also be posted on the council’s Facebook page and the picture with the most likes at the end of the week will be named the People’s Choice winner.

How will the winner know if they’ve won?

The name of the winners will be announced on the council’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social media accounts after 30 July and they’ll be contacted on the channel they submitted their photo. If the winner submitted their photo via email or post, they will be contacted using the details they provided.

What’s the prize?

Dobbies Garden Centre vouchers – 1st prize £100, 2nd prize £50, 3rd prize £25.

The People’s Winner will win a £50 Dobbies voucher.

Terms and conditions

All photos submitted may be used after the competition by Medway Council of third parties for digital content or printed materials.

The winners will be required to have their photo taken in their winning garden with their prize. The photo will appear on social media which is how the public will vote for the People’s Winner, and they may be used by local media.

Photos must be of front gardens only.

Entries submitted on social media without #MedwayBlossoms2018 and #name of town may not be entered into the competition.
