A group of people have been fined more than £5,000 by magistrates for littering.

In total, nine people were ordered to pay a combined £5,022 for failing to pay fixed penalty notices for littering.

The offences took place between May and July last year.

Cllr Alex Paterson, Portfolio Holder for Highways, Enforcement and Community Safety, said: “Our message remains the same – we will continue to enforce the rules against the small minority of people who leave the rest of us to pick up after them. Littering is not tolerated in Medway, and we will always look to follow-up on unpaid Fixed Penalty Notices with prosecution whenever possible.”

The cases were heard at Medway Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 7 January 2025. All of the cases were proved in absence.
