Fly tipping is anti-social, unfriendly and illegal. Individuals caught can be prosecuted.

Cases of fly-tipping in Medway have come in many forms including sofas, wardrobes, mattresses, hardcore, black bags and even a broken barbeque that's had its fair share of use.

Causes of fly-tipping

Several recent cases have been a result of individuals being paid by residents to dispose of bulky waste. This has seen collectors removing waste from properties and then dumping it in alleyways, streets or even parkland.

Paying for someone to take it away doesn’t necessarily mean the waste will be disposed of correctly.

If you, or someone you know, pays for bulky waste to be taken away, then make sure the collector has a registered ID. Be in control of keeping Medway clean.

Other ways of getting rid of bulky waste

There's other ways which you can dispose of your bulky waste. If you have a large car, you could take it to one of three local household waste and recycling centres. These are located in Cuxton, Capstone and Gillingham.

We also provide a bulky waste collection service for larger waste items. Here’s how it works:

  • up to three items per collection
  • collections are done between Monday – Friday
  • book a collection online or on 01634 333 333
  • collections on the same day as your bin collection costs £21. Different day to your usual bin collection costs £38
