Improvement works to Chatham Waterfront Bus Station will start from Monday, 22 September.

The works are expected to last for eight weeks, and form part of the council’s commitment to enhancing pedestrian safety, accessibility and public transport.

As part of the work, a one-way scheme will be introduced on Globe lane, the eastern side of the bus station, which will be northbound towards The Brook. As part of this, the carriageway will be narrowed, and the central island will be extended with a wider footpath and soft landscaping areas also being created.

From Monday, 29 September, the Eastern side of Globe Lane, and the bus stops there (Stands A1, A2, A3 and A4), will be closed at all times whilst this work is ongoing. Arrangements have been made with the bus operators and buses will be running from alternative stops at Chatham Waterfront Bus Station. Changes to bus stops can be found our website.

Road markings, traffic signs and crossing points will also be refreshed at the bus station, with the crossing points to be made a light-green to help improve visibility.

Resurfacing work will also be taking place between Dock Road and the raised table across the High Street. This work will take place overnight, but will require a full closure of the bus station in order for the work to be undertaken safely. The date for the resurfacing work will be announced shortly – and will be available on our website.

Signage will be in place to guide both drivers and pedestrians safety around the works.
