The work of professionals and volunteers in promoting the health and wellbeing of Medway’s residents has been recognised at an award ceremony.
Our A Better Medway Awards took place on Wednesday, 5 November at The Rochester Corn Exchange.
Overall, more than 95 nominations were made across the five categories:
- Outstanding Contribution to Adult Mental Health – Winner: Nucleus Arts.
- Outstanding Contribution to Children and Young People’s Mental Health – Winner: Emerge Advocacy.
- Shaping Medway’s Health – Winner: Magdalene Ministries.
- Outstanding Contribution to Physical Health – Winner: Coach Suvi.
- Innovation and Improvement – Winner: Medway Culture Club.
Two nominations were also chosen for special recognition. The Pentagon Shopping Centre security team picked up the James Williams Outstanding Contribution award for their work in preventing suicides - identifying those in distress or at risk, de-escalating situations and managing the initial multi-agency response. Local resident Paul Dennington also won the Director of Public Health award for his work in raising awareness of prostate cancer and male health issues, having successfully completed his latest fundraising initiative with his March Through Life earlier this year.

Recognise the efforts
Cllr Teresa Murray, Deputy Leader of Medway Council and Portfolio Holder for Public Health, said: “There are so many people in Medway working hard to help keep us healthier and happier, and taking the time to recognise the efforts of both volunteers and professionals is so important. This is exactly what the A Better Medway Awards does – and I would like to thank and congratulate every single person and organisation that was nominated as well as our winners. We can't make A Better Medway without them.”
