From April, Medway residents who live in flats will start to receive a weekly food waste collection.
The updated service will provide all residents across Medway with weekly black bag, recycling, and food waste collections, in line with the Environment Act (Simpler Recycling) reform.
Residents who live in flats have received a welcome pack to explain how their new additional collection will work. Between mid-March and April, all flats in Medway will also receive a five-litre kitchen caddy and 52 caddy liners.
Depending on the layout of each block, flats will also get either their own 23-litre outdoor bin or share a communal 140-litre bin with their neighbours for their weekly food waste collection.
Food waste collections from flats will start from Monday, 6 April. There will be no change to collection days as part of this change.
Residents who live in houses will not be impacted by these changes, and will continue to receive their weekly collections as usual.
Cleaner and greener Medway
Cllr Simon Curry, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder covering Waste, said: “This is a positive change which will allow our residents who live in flats to now recycle their food waste – contributing towards a cleaner and greener Medway.
“We are incredibly proud of our weekly bin collections in Medway – and this change further improves this great service by ensuring that all of our residents will now receive weekly black sack, recycling and food waste collections.”
Landlords and managing agents have received a briefing on these changes, however, residents with questions can also contact us by emailing: Waste.Services@Medway.gov.uk.
