The Leader of Medway Council has issued a statement following the updated Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) code of practice.
Cllr Vince Maple said: "As Leader of Medway Council I want to be clear, Medway stands in solidarity with the trans community. Trans people already face inequality and discrimination in their daily life.
"I would like to affirm Medway’s stance - Medway is and will remain an inclusive and accessible place for all. Whilst we don’t have all the answers now with the 300 plus pages of latest guidance, we recognise the importance of providing a safe space as well as accessible facilities, and we are continuing to work to provide this.
"We will continue to work as One Medway with our partner agencies to ensure that everyone feels safe and welcomed in Medway, and that our services and facilities can be accessed by all. That includes those working for Medway Council and our partners.
"We are proud of the diverse communities living and working within Medway, including our LGBTQIA+ community, and I would ask that everyone continues to treat others with the respect and kindness they too would expect. This is something everyone, from all walks of life, will receive from Medway Council staff, as is embedded in our Values and Behaviours."
