Residents are invited to have their say to help shape a new policy to improve safety and accessibility on pavements.
The consultation is open now, and closes at 11.59pm on Monday, 27 July.
The Articles on the Highway Policy will help to manage items which are placed on pavements outside businesses – such as advertising boards, shop displays and stock.
While these items can help businesses attract customers and contribute to vibrant high streets, they can also create obstacles if not positioned carefully. Obstructions on pavements can make it more difficult for people to move around safely, particularly wheelchair users, people with pushchairs and those with visual or mobility impairments.
The proposed policy aims to support local businesses while ensuring pavements remain safe, accessible and free from unnecessary obstruction.
It would introduce a clear and consistent approach to managing items on the highway, including requirements to maintain sufficient space for pedestrians, ensure displays are secure and avoid blocking access points.
The policy would also be supported by a licensing system, including appropriate fees and enforcement measures where necessary.
