A couple from Wainscott will be able to keep their garden looking beautiful this autumn after winning the Medway Blossoms 2018 garden competition.
Ann and Derek Holden won Medway Council’s garden competition after sending in a picture of their front garden and it was declared the winner by the judges. Their garden features an array of colourful and vibrant flowers in various displays along the garden. They won a £100 garden centre voucher.
Patricia Iles, from Rochester, came second and Bob Archer, from Strood, claimed third prize in the Medway Blossoms competition. They won £50 and £25 worth of garden centre vouchers.
Paula Tumber, from Chatham, took home the people’s choice winner, which was voted by the public on Facebook. She won a £50 garden centre voucher.
The Medway’s Blossoms garden competition 2018 is sponsored by Gian Chahal, McDonald’s franchisee for the Medway Gate and Chatham restaurants.
Gian Chahal presented Mr and Mrs Holden with their prize on Wednesday 29 August 2018.
Cllr Rupert Turpin, Portfolio Holder in charge of Community Wardens, said: “Mr and Mrs Holden were deserving winners of our Medway Blossoms garden competition. Their garden is well maintained with a beautiful display of flowers. I’d like to congratulate all of the winners and thank you to everyone across Medway who take pride in the way our communities look, our wardens work hard all year round clearing unsightly rubbish from our streets.”
Derek Holden said: “We decided to terrace our front garden instead of the usual block paving, resulting in it being recognised and appreciated by passersby and now by Medway Council.”
