Medway’s council tenants will continue to receive extensive support to ensure their properties remain of a high quality.
Medway Council’s existing contract with Mears Group Plc is to be extended for a further five years to deliver top class repair and maintenance works to more than 3,000 council properties until 2024.
Mears will continue to carry out a range of works including day-to-day repairs, gas servicing and improvements such as fitting new kitchens and bathrooms.
'Cost effective partnership'
Cllr Howard Doe, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing and Community Services, said: “We are committed to providing a quality repairs and maintenance service to residents living in council accommodation. The contract is a cost-effective partnership which we believe will continue to provide an excellent service to residents. We will continue to work closely with Mears to further improve the service we provide and to meet our customers’ needs.”
Medway Council, in partnership with Mears, was recognised at the UK Housing Awards, which was judged by the Chartered Institute of Housing, for its Housing Landlord service.
Mears also supports residents in other ways for example, staff get involved in community litter picks, offer advice to residents during fun days and run events for residents to help reduce social isolation.
'Testament to great teamwork'
General Manager of Mears, Jon Steward, said: “We are delighted to have this contract extended. It is a testament to great team work in Mears, and demonstrates how providing a consistently great service can lead to further opportunities with satisfied clients.
“We look forward to continuing our partnership with Medway Council.”
