The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol has been implemented in Medway - emergency accommodation is available for rough sleepers.

Medway Council commissions a range of support and accommodation throughout the year, whatever the weather conditions, and during forecasted freezing temperatures emergency plans are put in place to provide somewhere warm to stay, such as in a shelter.

Council staff are working with representatives from partner agencies in the Homelessness Forum to spread the message to as many rough sleepers as possible. Rough sleepers in Medway are encouraged to visit Kingsley House, in Balmoral Road, Gillingham on Thursday, 3 January before 5.15pm.

Rough sleepers who are unable to get to Kingsley House during the day on Thursday will still be provided with emergency accommodation through the council’s out of hours homelessness service. The out of hours service can be contacted on 01634 304400 while the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol is in place.

Throughout the year, the public can access specialist support at Kingsley House on the issues which can cause people to become homeless, such as debt and rent arrears. The council also commissions a range of support and accommodation to help those who find themselves with nowhere to live.

Thank you to everyone who is helping us spread the word, especially all of the volunteers.
