Medway Council’s sports team is part of a council-wide effort to support frontline NHS and community services during the coronavirus (COVID-19) response.

Sports officers from Medway Park, Splashes and Strood and Hoo sports centres have delivered food - including drinks and snacks - from our sports centres to NHS workers at Medway NHS Foundation Trust and to charitable foodbank collections to support the most vulnerable residents in Medway who need support with food supplies. Drinks and snacks from The Brook and Central Theatres have also been donated.

It’s one of a number of ways in which sports centre staff are helping residents during the pandemic. Medway sports centre instructors are helping residents get fit through providing online exercise classes over the new few weeks. The classes can be viewed by following @medwaysport on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and include pilates, chairfit (exercising using an armless chair) and other sessions, helping ensure members who usually attend these classes don’t miss out.

Going above and beyond to support residents stay fit and well at home

Cllr Alan Jarrett, Leader of Medway Council, said: “Despite our sports centres being closed in line with government advice, our dedicated staff are really going above and beyond to support not just our centre members, but all of our residents to stay fit and well at home in these difficult times.”
