Medway is set to host the most unique gaming festival the UK has ever seen, in March 2021.

Gaming fans will be reunited once again at what could be the first large gaming festival since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Medway Rapture Gaming and Creative Festival is due to be held at the renowned The Historic Dockyard Chatham on Saturday, 6 and Sunday, 7 March 2021. It is being supported by organisations across Medway, including substantial funding from Medway Council, as set out by the Leader during the 2019 budget setting meeting.

The weekend family-fun festival, which is being supported by a multitude of incredible show stakeholders, will have something for everyone – from gaming pros to novices. There will be plenty of gaming fun and interactive exhibitions for people of all ages to get involved in, including children, families and students.

Medway gaming festival

Medway’s gaming festival has a real-life submarine taking centre stage for a murder mystery activity – more to be revealed! This forms just a snippet of one of the three core shows taking place at Medway Rapture Gaming and Creative Festival:

  • Medway Rapture – traditional gaming event with plenty for gamers and families to do at The Historic Dockyard Chatham.
  • Medway Creative – an exciting creative arts, science, engineering, technology and videogames creation event with diverse and engaging content and activities at The Historic Dockyard Chatham.
  • Medway E-Sports – local university students and military teams will battle it out in virtual sporting events.

There will also be guest speaker talks and workshops for those wanting to learn more about the gaming and digital industry, as well as Medway’s four universities and MidKent College showcasing what they have to offer to our aspiring young people.

Modern festival set alongside Medway's rich heritage

Leader of Medway Council, Cllr Alan Jarrett, said: “I am delighted that Medway will be hosting a gaming festival and in such a unique setting. We are committed to providing opportunities for Medway’s residents, especially our young people, and we are proud to be supporting this modern festival which will be set alongside Medway’s rich heritage at The Historic Dockyard Chatham. The Medway Rapture Gaming and Creative Festival will provide an exhilarating weekend for families, as well as for developers and students wanting to be part of the future of gaming.

“We are working closely with European-wide gaming events company Fragers Ltd, which has previously held six successful Rapture Gaming Festivals across the UK, as well as Medway’s universities and MidKent College to give young people a voice in the planning stages and as part of our ambition for Medway to become a Child-Friendly City. The festival also strengthens Medway’s bid to become the UK City of Culture in 2025, offering a unique event for our residents. It will also bring additional visitors to Medway across the weekend, showcasing Medway’s diverse cultural offer and boosting our local economy. I am looking forward to welcoming the gaming community in March 2021 and to showcase why Medway is such a great place to live, work, learn and visit.”
