The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) has been implemented in Medway – on Friday, 8 December.

Temperatures are expected to drop this weekend and we are providing emergency accommodation for people living on the streets.

All rough sleepers are being encouraged to visit Kingsley House, in Balmoral Road, Gillingham on Friday, 8 December, before 4.45pm.

Rough sleepers who are unable to get to Kingsley House before 4.45pm on Friday, 8 December will still be provided with emergency accommodation this weekend through our out of hours homelessness service, by calling 01634 304400.

Thank you to everyone helping spread the word

Thank you to our partners in the Homelessness Forum who have been helping us spread the word. The Homelessness Forum is made up of several organisations, including the police, health services and is supported by housing providers, local charities and support workers, who tell as many rough sleepers as they can that accommodation is immediately available to them during periods of severe weather. SWEP is implemented when the night-time temperatures are predicted to be freezing or below for three consecutive days.

Support provided all year round

We work closely with partner agencies all year round to provide support to homeless people. We offer specialist support on the issues that can cause people to become homeless, such as debts and rent arrears. We commission a range of support and accommodation to help those who find themselves with nowhere to live. Kingsley House is open Monday to Thursday from 8.30am until 5.15pm and on a Friday between 8.30am and 4.45pm. Emergency support is also available out of hours.
