Emergency accommodation continues to be provided in Medway. The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) was implemented in Medway on Friday, 8 December.

We are continuing to encourage rough sleepers to visit Kingsley House, in Balmoral Road, Gillingham, before 5.15pm today (Monday, 11 December).

Rough sleepers who are unable to get to Kingsley House before 5.15pm will still be provided with emergency accommodation through our out of hours homelessness service, by calling 01634 304400.

We have also taken the decision to continue providing emergency support into Sunday, 17 December.

Thank you for your support

Hundreds of people helped spread the word through social media on Friday and over the weekend, raising awareness of SWEP and the emergency help we provide during severe weather conditions.

We would also like to thank our partners in the Homelessness Forum who have been helping us tell as many rough sleepers as we can that accommodation is immediately available to them during periods of severe weather.

What is SWEP?

SWEPis implemented when the night-time temperatures are predicted to be freezing or below for three consecutive days.

Support provided all year round

We work closely with partner agencies all year round to provide support to homeless people. We offer specialist support on the issues that can cause people to become homeless, such as debts and rent arrears. We commission a range of support and accommodation to help those who find themselves with nowhere to live.

Kingsley House is open Monday to Thursday from 8.30am until 5.15pm and on a Friday between 8.30am and 4.45pm. Emergency support is also available out of hours.
