It is with great sadness that we announce that Cllr Steve Iles passed away on Thursday, 17 June.

Following the sad news the Leader of Medway Council, Cllr Alan Jarrett, and Chief Executive of Medway Council, Neil Davies, have paid tribute to Cllr Iles.

He will be greatly missed

Cllr Jarrett said: “Steve was an incredibly hardworking and diligent councillor. He was proud to serve as Mayor of Medway as well as Deputy Mayor and will be greatly missed by all of his colleagues at Medway Council and, of course, by the residents he represented. I would like to express my condolences to his wife, Cllr Mrs Josie Iles, and their friends and family.”

Our thoughts and sympathies are with his friends and family

Chief Executive of Medway Council, Neil Davies, said: “I was saddened to hear of the death of Cllr Steve Iles. Steve was a dedicated local councillor who was extremely proud to represent Strood North. Steve was a former Mayor, and Deputy Mayor, of Medway and he thoroughly enjoyed meeting residents and raising money for his chosen charity, the Medway branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his wife, Cllr Mrs Josie Iles, and their family and friends at this difficult time.”

Cllr Iles was elected to Medway Council in 2015 representing Strood North and he was re-elected in 2019.

He served as Mayor of Medway in 2018-2019 and Deputy Mayor twice in 2015-16 and in 2019. Cllr Iles also served as Mayor’s consort supporting Cllr Mrs Josie Iles during her term as Mayor in 2013-2014.

Cllr Iles had a keen interest in Employment Matters and Health and Adult Social Care Overview and Scrutiny serving on both committees.
