Cabinet is due to discuss exciting plans next week to create a new modern family-friendly sports centre in Rainham.

Cabinet will consider a recommendation at its meeting on 13 July to approve the development of a new sports centre, on the site of, and of a similar scale to, the existing Splashes Sports Centre, which is due to be demolished later this year.

The new centre will offer fun family-friendly activities which will complement sessions held at Medway’s other sports centres including a leisure pool, with a range of features suitable for children and families of all ages. The pool will also be large enough to allow formal swimming and to hold swimming lessons. Plans also include a gym and exercise studio/party room, improved changing facilities and a café, for sports centre customers and for visitors to the adjoining park.

The plans support our ambition to become a Child-Friendly City, putting children and young people at the heart of everything we do.

Exciting plans for the centre

Cllr Howard Doe, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: “I will be recommending that Cabinet approves the development of a new sports centre in Rainham. We have exciting plans for the centre to ensure is has even better facilities for families across Medway to enjoy. I am also pleased that the development of the new centre aims to be carbon neutral which supports our aspiration for Medway to become carbon neutral by 2050.”

Keep up-to-date on the project.
