Medway Council has launched swimming sessions, just for women, at Hoo Sports Centre as part of the This Girl Can initiative.

The sessions offer women the chance to get active whilst making friends and enjoying themselves whilst being supported in a comfortable, non-judgemental setting. A member of staff will be available on pool side to offer advice and support, and women are welcome to wear t-shirts and shorts if it makes them feel more comfortable in the pool.

Sport England’s This Girl Can campaign aims to help women overcome the fear of judgement and get more women and girls involved in sport.

Cllr Howard Doe, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: “I am delighted we are now also offering swimming sessions especially for women. We hope they will encourage more women to try the sport, and become more active.”

The sessions are held at Hoo Sports Centre, Main Road, Hoo, on Fridays between 9.30am and 10.30am.
