Medway’s greatest builds to be recognised

16 March 2017

Businesses and developers which have helped shape the design of Medway over the past decade are invited to battle it out in a new awards ceremony.

The first-ever Medway Design and Regeneration Awards will be held on Friday, 16 June, during the two-week period of events to commemorate the Battle of Medway.

Nominations for the awards are now open - all businesses which have constructed in Medway in the past 10 years, as well as residents who are proud of a building in their community, have until Monday, 1 May to enter.

Medway not only has prestigious historical sights, such as Rochester Castle and Eastgate House, but it has other architecturally beautiful buildings. There are nine winning titles up for grabs, including residential builds, from a single home to a major development and public buildings, such as community sites or an educational venue.

Your chance to enter

Companies and residents are able to enter a building they think is worthy of recognition, whether it is an eco-home, large infrastructure or simply something a bit quirky.

Entry is free and there is no limit on the number of nominations a business or resident can make. All nominations will be carefully considered and shortlisted, before an independent panel of judges selects an overall winner for each category.

The shortlisted businesses and developers will be invited to attend an awards ceremony being held at The Historic Dockyard Chatham on Friday, 16 June.

People’s choice award

There will also be a people's choice award. Members of the public will decide which of the nominated finalists will win the popular vote. Details of the finalists for this award and how to vote will be announced once all entries have been judged and shortlisted.

'Great opportunity for businesses and developers'

Leader of Medway Council, Cllr Alan Jarrett, said: “The Medway Design and Regeneration Awards is a great opportunity for all businesses and developers that have been part of the regeneration of Medway. It takes a great amount of time for developers to finesse building plans and we’re pleased to be able to hold an awards ceremony that recognises their hard work.

“This is an exciting year for Medway; not only is it the first time we are holding the awards, but we are also hosting a series of events throughout the year which are due to attract tourists and developers from across the nation. Medway really is a place we can all be proud of.”
