Following the first successful event, Medway Matters Live, our open information evening, will return in June for residents to find out the latest news and put questions to the Council's leaders.

Medway Matters Live, named after the council’s much-loved seasonal resident magazine, will enable residents to hear directly from Leader Cllr Vince Maple and Chief Executive Richard Hicks. The first event last November, took place at the Howard School Rainham, and was attended by 100 local residents.

Former BBC South East broadcast journalist, Rob Smith, will be hosting the event. Rob is not only a multi-award winning TV and radio journalist, but he is a Medway resident and has brought up his family in the area.

The event will take place on Tuesday 18 June from 7pm-8.30pm at The Hundred of Hoo Academy.

After the evening has been opened by Rob, Vince and Richard will update the audience on developments in the council over the past six months and set out the council’s vision and plans for the coming four years. Attendees will also have the chance to put their questions direct to the council leaders during the evening and to give their views on the topics discussed.

A great opportunity

Leader of Medway Council, Vince Maple, said: “We were delighted with the turnout and feedback from our first Medway Matters Live evening last year and are keen to make this a regular event for local residents.  This is a great opportunity to let people know at first hand about the priorities and projects for the council at the moment, but more importantly for local people to be able to ask us questions directly and to let us have their views on local matters. We have made a commitment to building greater engagement with local people so we hope that people will be encouraged to sign up and come along to this free event and I look forward to meeting with them.”

'We hope to see you there'

Chief Executive of Medway Council, Richard Hicks, said: “Our first Medway Matters Live event showed the level of interest there is in local issues, and we debated a range of subjects, from our town centres to the Local Plan, and from young people to housing.  So, we are taking this back out on the road and will be holding our next Medway Matters Live on the Hoo Peninsula. We will have a range of our services there and residents can learn more about what we do including our welfare and benefits service, the Local Plan, Adult Education, apprenticeships, theatres and support for our young people. We hope to see you there.”
