Historic Places Panel

We invited the Historic Places Panel to visit and to provide advice on our growth and regeneration.

In September 2025, the Historic Places Panel visited the following locations in Gillingham and Rainham:

  • Gillingham High Street
  • Lower Rainham
  • The Strand
  • the Sunlight Centre
  • the Great Lines Navy memorial.

Why they visited

The Historic Places Panel visited to help us develop our latest heritage strategy for Medway.

They focused on 3 areas:

  1. How local organisations can be supported to drive community-led regeneration
  2. How we can make sure local communities have a say in growth and regeneration
  3. How developers, investors, agents, and public bodies can work with the community to make sure new developments reflect our culture and heritage.

What happens next

The Historic Places Panel provided advice on how we can use our heritage to plan future regeneration projects.

The Historic Places Panel will provide a report of their findings later in the year.
