We have welcomed the news that the UK Government will continue to fund MedwayGo for the next three years.
MedwayGo is the council’s free, government funded Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme for children aged between 5 and 16-years old who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals.
Running during the Easter, Summer and Christmas school holidays, MedwayGo provides thousands of free activity sessions and healthy meals for Medway’s children every year.
This summer, more than 3,000 children enjoyed activities like football, forensics, musical theatre and even sailing through MedwayGo.

Free places are available for those eligible for benefit related school meals, and there are a limited number of free sessions for looked after children, children from military families or children with SEND needs. However, families can also pay to attend some of the sessions that are run through MedwayGo.
The next MedwayGo sessions will run over the Christmas holidays, with bookings due to open in December. MedwayGo will also be hosting another family fun day this October – you can keep up-to-date by following their social media.
Offers a vital lifeline
Cllr Teresa Murray, Deputy Leader of Medway Council, said: “It is fantastic news that the government has extended the HAF programme for the next three years.
“We know that for many families in Medway, MedwayGo offers a vital lifeline in the school holidays. Each session includes a free nutritious lunch, and it makes sure that children in Medway have the opportunity to take part in lots of fun and exciting activities during the holidays.
“We know that our MedwayGo sessions are incredibly popular, and to have confirmation that they will continue to be there to provide much-needed support for some of our most vulnerable residents is great to hear.”
