Medway is set to benefit from the government’s announcement of an £84million boost to tackle rough sleeping and homelessness.
As part of the announcement, Medway will receive an additional £533,498 to help prevent homelessness and to support Medway families this winter.
This funding includes £425,534 which will be used on initiatives to tackle and prevent homelessness and rough sleeping. More than £85,000 of this funding will also be used to support Medway’s partnerships and voluntary, community and faith sector services.
In addition, Medway has been given a further £107,964 which will be specifically used to provide support to children and their families who are experiencing homelessness.

Cllr Louwella Prenter, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing and Homelessness, said: “We welcome this additional funding, which will allow us to continue to build on the work we are already undertaking to support some of our most vulnerable residents.
“We work throughout the year to support our residents as best we can, but this is funding which is much needed to enhance the support we can offer. Ensuring children and their families can be prioritised is essential, but it is also important that the invaluable work of our voluntary, charitable and faith organisations will be supported too. This reinforces one of our key priorities from our Housing and Rough Sleeping Strategy – the One Medway approach – recognising that sharing resources, expertise and knowledge is key to tackling these issues.”
