Yesterday (Thursday, 2 July) the government announced that bars and pubs will be able to stay open until 5am on Monday, 6 July to allow fans to watch England v Mexico.
Commenting on the announcement Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of Medway Council, said: “We welcome the government’s announcement that pubs and bars will be able to stay open so fans can cheer England on against Mexico this weekend – it is great news for supporters and local businesses.
“Wherever you watch the game – whether it is down your local or at home – we want everyone to have a great time cheering on the Three Lions whilst staying safe. We would encourage people planning to celebrate to do so responsibly, look out for family and friends, and plan your journey home in advance.
“I would also like to thank our hardworking licensing team, which has been working closely with businesses in Medway throughout the world cup. Finally, there is only one left to say – come on England!”
