We're committed to making the streets outside our schools safer and healthier for our children. To help us do this, we have introduced School Streets across Medway.
A School Street is a road outside a school that has temporary vehicle restrictions at drop-off and pick-up times during the school term. The road becomes a pedestrian and cycle only area during these times.
The restrictions are not in place during school holidays or weekends.
School Streets reduce the number of vehicles outside our school gates to:
- reduce congestion
- reduce parking problems for residents
- improve air quality
- create a safer environment for children and parents to travel to school.
We have successfully secured £486k from the government’s Active Travel Fund to support this scheme.

Burnt Oak Primary School, Gillingham
- streets: Cornwall Road, Devonshire Road, Richmond Road
- morning operating time: 8.15am to 9am
- afternoon operating time: 2.45pm to 3.45pm.
Greenvale Primary School, Chatham
- street: Symons Avenue
- morning operating time: 8am to 9am
- afternoon operating time: 3pm to 4pm.
Miers Court Primary School, Rainham
- streets: Silverspot Close, The Crofters
- morning operating time: 8am to 9am
- afternoon operating time: 3pm to 4pm
- Fridays only: there will be 3 operating times at 8am to 9am, 12.45pm to 1.30pm and 3pm to 4pm.
Phoenix Primary School, Chatham
- streets: Glencoe Road, Magpie Hall Road, Sturla Road, White Road
- morning operating time: 8am to 9am
- afternoon operating time: 3pm to 4pm.
St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Gillingham
