Overview

Gillingham Pier is at the far end of Pier Approach Road in Gillingham, Kent, ME7 1RX.

The location once had an all-tide landing pier at the end of the Eastern Arm which was removed in 2011. Today it's a pier in name only.

Built in the 19th century as a draw dock harbour, it offers long term moorings for leisure craft and historic vessels such as steam tugs, Thames barges, and a paddle steamer, in addition to a wide slipway available for boat maintenance.

All income from moorings and warehouse rentals is used to maintain the piers facilities and make improvements to the Gillingham Pier estate.

Review

Please be aware that all mooring applications for leisure craft are suspended until 2026 whilst a review is undertaken.

Once the review is complete, the waiting list will be re-opened. Current wait times are in excess of 3 years.

There is no provision for visiting leisure craft and there are no residential moorings at Gillingham Pier.

Historic ships

The Western Arm is for use by historic vessels only which includes the much loved Medway Queen, a ship famous for 7 trips to Dunkirk in 1940.

All historic ships can be viewed by the public from the quayside with some offering guided tours during the summer.

More information

It's the intention of Medway Council to dredge the harbour in 2025 to 2026.
