Description

The Money Advice Service Debt Advice Project (MAS) is available to anyone who is experiencing financial difficulties.

The project's main purpose is to equip our clients with the knowledge and ability to empower themselves to manage their finances on their own.

You will need to undertake an Initial Check to determine if you need the service. The MAS project offers a one-off full advice appointment with one of our specially trained Money Advisers.

These appointments will either be held over the phone or in person.

In a debt advice session the MAS Adviser will discuss your situation and fully assess your needs. This can lead to a recommended course of action to improve your situation and lead to a resolution. For example, using self-help, discussing insolvency options or referral to another free money advice organisation who can provide ongoing support if necessary.

We can:

  • help you work out how much income you have
  • identify ways in which you may be able to increase your income
  • identify which debts are priorities (ie: these have more serious consequences if you don't pay them)
  • give you letters to use when writing to people you owe money to
  • help you work out realistic payment offers
  • explain other options which may be available to you (such as debt relief orders or an individual voluntary arrangement)
