HANDS Direct Services provide a community transport scheme operated by volunteer drivers and office staff.
The drivers use their own cars to take clients to medical appointments, day care centres, shopping, visiting friends or relatives - or a whole host of other places that people would not be able to get to on their own.
The usual client group is the very elderly or those with physical disabilities, although if there are sufficient volunteers we will try to help others with severe difficulties.
A mileage rate is charged to cover the driver's expenses, plus a small administration charge. Volunteer expenses are reimbursed by the client.
The scheme is coordinated by a dedicated member of staff and office volunteers.
