Description

Kent Association for the Blind (KAB) offers accredited and non-accredited courses in sensory awareness.

These courses are suitable for anyone who wishes to explore and understand the issues that may impact upon the lives of people with sensory impairments.

The range of professional development and training courses is delivered by qualified workers providing you with knowledge to gain new skills to help you progress in your career and to support people with a sensory impairment by using up-to-date research and technologies.

About the courses

KAB provides OCN (Open College Network) Level 2 and 3 accredited one day courses in understanding visual impairment, understanding hearing impairment, understanding deafblindness and understanding assistive technology (AT - available at Level 2 only).

Courses cost £59 per person, including all course materials, OCN registration and a portfolio of evidence pack.

An additional Certification cost applies; £35 for Level 2 and £45 for Level 3.

Training usually takes place at KAB's Sight Centres in Bromley, Canterbury and Maidstone. Courses can also be organised at other local venues or at your place of work.

KAB also offers non-accredited half day courses which provide awareness training for anyone who works with or has contact with people who have sight impairments.

These courses are also suitable for anyone who wants to know more about what it is like to live with sight loss or about helping people who have sight impairments.

The half-day training will cover the causes and effects of the main six eye conditions, practical, hands-on experiences under simulation spectacles and blindfolds, including how to guide someone safely and help them perform everyday tasks.

Courses cost £35 per person.
